In his capacity as the principal partner of the firm, Mr. Hazem Hassan was able to maintain

the excellent reputation enjoyed by the firm and entrench its advanced standing

as the largest and oldest firm for practicing the accounting and auditing profession in Egypt

such that it now includes more than forty partners and over a thousand accountants

providing their accounting services to many of the most important institutions and banks operating in Egypt

and the Arab world. In addition to being the principal partner of the firm,

Mr. Hazem Hassan serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the consulting companies owned by

and affiliated with the firm, and these affiliated companies employ around forty experts

of economists and financiers. Through his practice of the profession

over all these years, Mr. Hazem Hassan acquired broad experience and was thus chosen as auditor for many

of the most important institutions and authorities, including the Arab Development Bank in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire

the Arab Organization for Industrialization, the Dekheila Iron and Steel Complex, the Arab African International Bank

Kenana Sugar Company in Sudan, and others among the largest companies and institutions in Egypt and abroad

Mr. Hazem Hassan as Chairman of the Society's Board of Directors, a position he holds

since his election in 1996 until now. In appreciation of his experience, the Egyptian government appointed him

a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Egypt

and a member of the Board of Directors of the Financial Regulatory Authority

and Chairman of the Board of Investment Trustees at the Authority for Investment and Free Zones

and a member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian National Railways Authority

and a member of the Accounting Standards Committee at the Central Auditing Organization

Mr. Hazem Hassan held, for 3 years, the position of member

then chairman of the External Audit Committee of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington

which is tasked with verifying the validity of the Fund's annual statements and financial positions

and confirming that to the Executive Board and the Board of Governors of the Fund

Mr. Hazem Hassan is the first Arab the Fund chose for this position

Fifth President of the Egyptian Society of Accountants & Auditors

Born in Assiut in 1918, he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from Fuad I University

(now Cairo University), Accounting Department, in 1938, and was among the top graduates. After graduation he worked

at the National Bank of Egypt, then at the Ministry of Justice as an expert accountant, then as an inspector at the Court of Audit when it was established in 1944.

Then Mr. Hafez Ragheb traveled to England in 1945 and obtained membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants

in England and Wales in 1951, and also obtained membership of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants and fellowship of the Institute of Taxation

in England. He returned to Egypt in 1951 to work as a professor at the Faculty of Commerce, Ain Shams University, alongside practicing the profession

to which he devoted himself starting from 1956.

He participated in the membership of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Society of Accountants & Auditors, then became Chairman

of the Board of Directors in 1995, then honorary President of the Society in 1996

He also participated in setting and supervising the Society's examinations. Mr. Hafez Ragheb had a long history in establishing

the rules of high professional conduct among accountants in general and those who worked under his leadership and supervision in particular, and from his school graduated

many who hold for him the noblest and most beautiful memories. To the body of accountants in Egypt and our Arab world he is the professor

and the dean and like the father to whom they hold all appreciation and esteem

Fourth President of the Egyptian Society of Accountants & Auditors

Name: Mostafa Mohamed Shawky, born in Alexandria in 1915. Academic qualifications:

Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Division) from Fuad I University (now Cairo)

May 1937 session. Diploma of Higher Studies in Economic Sciences from the Faculty of Law, Fuad I University

in 1940. Diploma of Higher Studies in Economic Sciences from the Faculty of Law, Fuad I University

in 1941. He worked as an expert accountant at the Ministry of Justice from his graduation in 1937

until 1942, then resigned from his government position in 1942

where his name was registered in the roster of accountants and auditors at the Ministry of Finance.

He devoted himself to the accounting, auditing, and taxation profession in his office (Shawky & Partners) for more

than fifty years until his death, and his office issues a bulletin titled (Al-Marja') for more

than fifteen years, in which research, laws, decisions, judicial rulings

and fatwas concerning the fields of accounting, auditing, and taxation are published. He held several

advisory positions in the field of accounting, auditing, and taxation in several Arab countries and contributed

practically to preparing tax legislation and to establishing tax authorities

in most Arab countries and worked to develop that legislation. He also established the first office

for accounting and auditing in Kuwait in 1959 and participated in founding a syndicate for accountants

and auditors of Egypt in 1949. He also participated in founding the Syndicate of Commercial Professionals

in 1973 and was its first treasurer, and participated in founding the Society of Accounting

and Auditors which was established in 1946 with the aim of raising the scientific and practical level

of those working in the accounting and auditing profession.

He represented Egypt on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Commercial Professionals (CIADEC), and participated in

founding the General Union of Arab Accountants and Auditors (affiliated with the League of Arab States)

and held the position of Assistant Secretary-General for Financial Affairs of the aforementioned

Union. He also participated in founding the Commerce Club and held the position of Vice Chairman

of the Club's Board of Directors. He was the first Egyptian to join the membership of the International Tax Association

in 1975 in the Netherlands, and this association appointed him general supervisor of its branch in Egypt.

He founded the Egyptian Tax Society in August 1990

and assumed the chairmanship of this society's board of directors from its founding until his death in 1997.

Third President of the Egyptian Society of Accountants & Auditors

Born in 1921 on 28 September in the city of Khartoum, Sudan. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting Division,

Cairo University in 1943. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts, Economics Division, University of Sheffield in England in 1950.

He obtained fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in the same year.

He obtained fellowship of the Egyptian Society of Accountants & Auditors in 1954. He was appointed First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry

Petroleum and Mineral Wealth in 1971.

He was appointed Minister of Finance on 25/4/1974, then Minister of Social Insurance in 1974. He was appointed Governor of the Central Bank

of Egypt in 1976, and was appointed Deputy Prime Minister for Financial and Economic Affairs

and head of the economic group in 1982. He held several positions until his death, including President of the Egyptian Business Administration Society

since 1975, and Vice President of the Egyptian Cost Society from the date of its establishment, and President of the Egyptian Society of Accountants

and Auditors since 1974, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Microfilm for Systems Technology since 1984

and Vice President of the Egyptian Institute of Costs since the date of its establishment.

He obtained several decorations and medals, including the Order of Merit in 1989, the Order of Sciences and Arts, First Class

in 1983, and the Badge of Distinction in 1990. He participated in preparing the Unified Accounting System and was a member of the

specialized national councils from 1975 until his death, and a member of the Shura Council in the period from 1976

until 1982, and he has numerous professional research works. Mr. Mohamed Abdel Fattah Ibrahim died in 1991

after a full life in which he was an example of knowledge, ethics, dignity, and self-esteem, and his personality left its clear imprints

on all the fields in which he worked

Second President of the Egyptian Society of Accountants & Auditors

The late Zaki Hassan was born in Cairo in 1896 and obtained a Bachelor of Commerce in 1922 from the Higher School of Commerce (now the Faculty of Commerce) and was first in his class with honors. The state sent him on a study mission to England where he obtained a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Leeds with first-class honors in 1925, then fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1928, and he was the first Egyptian and Arab to obtain this certificate. The late Zaki Hassan combined in his experience the academic side represented in his work and experience in teaching at Egyptian universities, and the professional side represented in practicing the accounting and auditing profession. Regarding the academic side, the late Zaki Hassan held many important positions, including that he worked as headmaster of the Higher School of Commerce (later the Faculty of Commerce) and professor of accounting at the Faculty of Commerce, Cairo University, and was then appointed deputy then dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Alexandria University, and worked for a number of years as a part-time professor in postgraduate studies of accounting and auditing at the Faculty of Commerce, Cairo University. He was also chosen as a member of the council of the Faculty of Commerce, Al-Azhar University, and in addition he chaired many committees for discussing doctoral theses in accounting and auditing at the faculties of commerce in Egyptian universities. During his deanship of the Faculty of Commerce, Alexandria University, he was then chosen as a member of the committee that was tasked in 1950

with reviewing and approving the financial systems of the International Monetary Fund affiliated with the World Bank. The late Zaki Hassan participated (along with the late Abdel Maqsoud Pasha Ahmed)

in founding the Society of Accountants & Auditors in 1946 and worked as Vice President then President of the Society for thirty consecutive years. Regarding the professional side, the late Zaki Hassan is one of the first Egyptians to practice the accounting

and auditing profession, where he established the first Egyptian accounting office in 1942, competing with the English offices that were practicing the profession in Egypt at that time.

That office developed since then until it became one of the largest professional institutions in Egypt and the Arab world.

The late Zaki Hassan is the first Egyptian appointed as auditor of Banque Misr and the National Bank of Egypt in 1956, after the Egyptianization of the accounting and auditing profession. He also worked as auditor of the Central Bank of Egypt

from 1963 until 1975 and was appointed head of the first standing committee formed by the Governor of the Central Bank to set accounting standards for the banks operating in Egypt.

The late Zaki Hassan participated – fundamentally – in setting many of the laws that governed economic activity at that time, including Tax Law No. 14 of 1939, the General Tax on Income Law No. 99 of 1949, the Accounting and Auditing Profession Regulation Law No. 133 of 1951, and the Joint-Stock Companies Law No. 26 of 1954.

Mr. Zaki Hassan passed away to the mercy of God in 1976

after a full life in which he was a highest example of professional conduct, giving, integrity, tolerance, humility, and self-esteem, and the history and development of the accounting and auditing profession in Egypt will always be linked to his name and his works.

Founder and first President of the Egyptian Society of Accountants & Auditors

The late Abdel Maqsoud Pasha Ahmed was born in Cairo in 1897, and his life, which extended for 92 years, was distinguished by many great achievements.

Abdel Maqsoud Pasha obtained the highest academic and professional qualifications in the field of accounting. After obtaining in 1922 a Bachelor of Commerce from the Higher School of Commerce (now the Faculty of Commerce), he traveled to England

and obtained a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Birmingham with honors in 1926, then obtained membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England

and Wales in 1929. During his working life, the late Abdel Maqsoud Pasha Ahmed held many important positions, including his work as Director General of the Companies Department

at the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Finance, then economic advisor to the Egyptian government. He also worked as government delegate to the Egyptian Sugar and Distillation Company and its delegate to the Suez Canal Authority,

and in 1945 the late Talaat Harb Pasha chose him, in consultation with the Egyptian government, as a managing director of Banque Misr, then chairman of the bank's board of directors. He held the position of chairman and member of the boards of directors of many companies affiliated

with Banque Misr, including:

Misr Spinning and Weaving Company for the manufacture of fine Egyptian cotton

Misr Company for the Manufacture and Trade of Oils, Misr Insurance Company

Misr Silk Weaving Company, Misr Transport and Navigation Company

Misr Maritime Navigation Company, Al-Beida Dyeing Company

Misrair (EgyptAir), and other companies.

The Egyptian Society of Accountants & Auditors owes the late Abdel Maqsoud Pasha Ahmed for his principal role in founding it in 1946 and his chairmanship of its first board of directors in that year. He remained chairman of the Society's board of directors for 15 years until 1961, and Abdel Maqsoud Pasha died in 1988 after a full life

in which he was a highest example of knowledge, ethics, dignity, and self-esteem, and his influential personality also left its clear imprints in all the fields in which he worked
